TWILIGHT

ongoing project exploring aspects of air pollution in support of clean air

How can something invisible be made tangible? How can we frame clean air as a human right, a common good, and not a commodity? Vivienne draws upon nature and makes the concept of clean air an experience through layered ink paintings created by her breath, air quality graph collages, and cork willow installations resembling our lung trees. TWILIGHT artworks serve as a metaphor for our relationship with air and breathing.

Air pollution poses a major threat to our health and the climate.

Imagine the first breath when you are born and how this airflow becomes part of the earth, part of the rhythm and the cycle that we are all a part of. We are part of this air flow that is working for the ecological well-being of the planet. What more can we contribute than to breathe?

Lichens on twigs and tree branches tell us about the current state of air pollution, while lichens on tree trunks reveal the history of air pollution in the past.

Vivienne is currently conducting research on lichen. To correctly convey these issues, she receives information and advice for this project directly from a Natural History Museum Collections’ curator.
